BYOD/COPE & Cybersecurity: What technical and cultural barriers exist for the sharing of equipment between companies (e.g. having two laptops as a consultant due to client-site consulting), or between personal and professional use ?

Resilio

I would focus on the points that I feel are essential to combine cybersecurity and green IT issue, mostly around BYOD & COPE, and back them up with appropriate feedback.

I would source this feedback from the many (+150) studies carried out with Resilio. Although the subject can quickly turn into an expert debate, I would use my experience as a speaker to adapt to the audience and its expectations.  I will be able to benefit from the internal research we have at Resilio, where a cybersecurity expert from EU pentest-team just join our team, working specifically on cybersec/GreenIT combined approach, and the particular mutualisation vs separation problem.

I will put a specific effort into providing field feedback, from companies I work with in engineering, luxury, or security, which has very strong cybersecurity requirements, and yet tried or will try the BYOD or COPE experience. I will also take feedback from the experience we got supporting consultancies in their Green IT journey.

I would work around the questions:

- BYOD is impossibl, we need homogeneous assets: the solutions that COPE offers?

- Why are COPE/BYOD so important?

- What are the technical solutions to enable BYOD or COPE, and what are their differences?

- Are there alternatives, such as giving the devices to the employees when they are renewed witin the company?

- What are the experiences, on the field, to avoid the double-laptop problem? Who is it to solve it?

- Should we change the process, or should we change the culture?

- Beyond technical consideration, what are the cultural levers to make mutualisation a success?

I'll make sure that I provide the audience with concrete examples so that participants come away with a clear idea of how they can embrace the subject by themself, and how to approach cybersecurity team and processes that goes against GreenIT interests. The examples I cite will be very concrete and will ensure the success of my presentation.

Finally, I will take the necessary care to ensure that the round table really is a relevant one, by exchanging ideas and adapting to my co-speakers and the flow of the discussion... As I always do in the many roundtable I did so far (incl. GTF Paris 2022).
